Client's Challenge
Xceed Solutions represents a large American Education Publishing Company that has been reliant on printing its projects in China for several years. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, transportation prices skyrocketed, and lead times rose significantly. The company quickly realized it had to find a dependable partner close to home. Migrating to a new printing vendor would not be easy, as their products require very high-quality standards and quick turnarounds.
Solution
Xceed found that Monterrey would be an ideal city to find its new printing partner. It is close to the Texas border and would solve the transportation congestion that they were currently facing. The long shipping times from China were causing significant delays in their product deliveries. After visiting and interviewing multiple printing companies in Mexico's largest cities, they concluded that Monterrey and Fuerza Grafica were their best option.
The printing company has modern facilities, state-of-the-art machinery, and is recognized nationally for its highest quality. Business may be conducted in English while relaxing in their private on-site meeting room with a fully stocked snack and beverage area. A special treat is discovering the extensive local cuisine available.
Execution
Although the initial kick off and quick ramp up were not simple, both sides effectively collaborated to swiftly address any obstacles that arose, building a strong team to overcome them. At first, Fuerza Gráfica had to adjust its planning dynamics, provide the client with the requested prototypes, and master the approval process specifics.
Fuerza Grafica went to great lengths to make the project a success. It acquired new machinery and increased efficiency in several processes to eliminate downtime thus speeding turnover times. Transparency and managing everyone’s expectations conveyed trust in the entire process and shortened lead times.
The client had easy access to Monterrey through several international airlines with expedited flights from Utah. This meant they could visit Fuerza Grafica’s facilities at a short time span. Communication was further facilitated through weekly production video conferences, between top management and the client’s decision makers.
Results
The positive impact on the client’s decision to nearshore their production was widespread:

Case studies

Client's Challenge
Whirlpool faced an urgent need to improve the quality and durability of its POP displays. At the time, these displays were made of SBS coating, which was prone to bending, wrinkling and tearing. This lack of durability represented a risk to the brand image, as the displays could appear inferior compared to those of the competition.
At the time, LG, one of Whirlpool's main competitors, was already using high-impact, long-lasting POP materials, such as plastic-based substrates.
Solution
Through collaborative research, the Whirlpool-Fuerza Gráfica team identified the most suitable solution to improve the quality and durability of the displays: printing on 10-point PVC, with glossy lamination on both sides. This approach would significantly improve the durability of the displays, while also enhancing the public perception of the client’s products.
Execution
Initially, the new POP displays were printed using conventional offset presses. However, the main challenge with this method was that the inks took a long time to dry. Furthermore, starting production with a limited number of units presented a cost challenge. To address this, white ink was applied via screen printing, which further extended the drying time and strained the client’s lead times for their advertising campaigns.
As Whirlpool’s orders continued to grow, the need for better service, improved quality and faster delivery times became even more pressing. To meet these demands, a hybrid offset press was purchased. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, this new press was able to print UV inks on PVC substrates and metallic cardstocks. The improved process provided numerous benefits, including faster production speeds, improved print quality and resolution of the drying time issue.
With the increasing volume of parts and the growing demand for fast delivery times, it became clear that Whirlpool’s business was highly dependent on specific peak sales seasons. This required agility and efficiency at every step of the production process. As suppliers, we had to be prepared to design, pre-press, print and finish quickly and accurately. To speed up the process even further, we assigned one of our specialist designers to Whirlpool’s offices to assist with file preparation from scratch.
Results
By implementing the hybrid press solution, Whirlpool gained a competitive advantage in the market. Its products were present at all major sales events and the new and improved POP displays (with special and eye-catching finishes) successfully captured the attention of buyers, leading to increased sales. All this was achieved with fast turnaround times, from initial design to final finishing.
